Zsolt Lengyel is an economist who has been the Team Leader and Key Expert of the European Commission funded 18 million EUR four years long Clima East project since July 2013. Prior to that he worked as Head of Climate Services and Lead Auditor of SQS (Swiss Association for Quality and management Systems) a UNFCCC accredited DoE for CDM and AIE for JI in the 2010-2013 period. He had become one of the most experienced PoA auditors globally (10 PoAs validated as Lead Auditor) as well as being exposed to a wide variety of CDM, VER, Gold Standard and JI projects.
Prior to his auditing work he spent five years at the Dutch Government’s Carboncredits (ERUPT) initiative as a Programme Advisor between 2005-2010. This period covered both new carbon credit purchasing (ERUPT 5, ERUPT New Style) and the management of a cc. 100 million EUR project portfolio.Prior to the Dutch Government he worked for Vertis and Chantrey Vellacott DFK in GHG reduction projects on installation level in various European countries providing the two pioneering carbon purchase programmes – the Dutch ERUPT/Carboncredits and the WorldBanks’ Prototype Carbon Fund -with some of their first ever contracted projects.
He spent twenty years in environmental consultancy after starting his career at the Environment & Geography Department of the London School of Economics as a researcher in 1995. His tasks focused on expert advisory roles for projects related to climate change mitigation and energy investments and corresponding policies & measures (CDM, JI,GIS, energy efficiency, renewables, adaptation) for clients such as Shell Global Solutions, Delphi Automotive Systems, Owens-Illinois, the WorldBank and the European Commission. He is a member of both the UNFCCC Secretariat’s and UNDP’s roster of climate experts.
